Two sitting senators have been elected to the presidency, Warren G. Harding and JFK. What do they have in common? Neither of them lived to see the end of their first term. Harding served 881 days and JFK 1,036.
There is one other instance of a sitting legislator being elected to the presidency: James A. Garfield. (served 199 days.)
Reagan broke the Curse of Tippecanoe but this is one curse I haven’t heard of. Of course it would be horrible if anything befell our next president, but for us trivia buffs, this is curious.
